Land and the HDA – how it works

Land is the HDA’s most important deliverable in terms of Outcome 8 – in the president’s 2010 State of the Nation Address he pronounced that “we plan to set aside over 6 000 hectares of well-located public land for low and affordable housing”. And this deliverable lies firmly on the shoulders of the HDA.

Technical working sessions with the NaHSLI team

The National Human Settlements Land Inventory(NaHSLI) team spent five days in a technical working session with the South African Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) in order to enhance and improve the “natural environment principle” within NaHSLI.

Over 3 000 hectares released for human settlement

The HDA is thrilled to announce that 3 387 hectares of land have been approved by the minister of rural development and land reform for release for human settlements. The land comprises three properties in Rustenburg and Brits.

Land release update

To date in excess of 68 000 hectares of publicly owned land has been identified by the HDA for human settlement development. The following land has been submitted for release and, in some instances, approved for release: A total of 13 598 hectares has been formally submitted for release from custodian departments.

Minister visits Joe Slovo Phase 3

A ministerial visit, which included the media, private sector representatives, community members and senior officials from all spheres of government, was held at Joe Slovo Phase 3 human settlement on Wednesday 9 May.
