Retired built environment professionals have been recruited by the Eastern Cape Human Settlements Department to mentor staff, MEC Nombulelo Mabandla said yesterday. “(This) intervention will ensure that the delivery targets of human settlements are met this current financial year,” Mabandla said. The mentors included retired civil engineers, land and quantity surveyors, town planners and geo-scientists. A building materials supplier has also been appointed. “(These measures) will ensure that we meet a target of building 3700 houses every month, so 22000 units will be completed by the end of 2010/11.” – Sapa
