EMERGENCY RESIDENTIAL UNITS (ERUS)

Following the severe storm disaster of February 2023, the HDA was appointed to construct Emergency Residential Units for affected families in Msunduzi Municipality, eThekwini and surrounding rural areas. These units provide safe interim accommodation for households whose homes were destroyed or rendered unsafe.

Key achievements include:

• Delivery of completed ERUs in Illovu and Pietermaritzburg
• Full construction and ministerial/MEC handovers to flood‑affected beneficiaries
• Improved safety, dignity and stability for vulnerable households

These ERUs ensure immediate relief while permanent housing solutions are phased in.
